Swim Updates Week of 5/31
Hello Hurricanes!! Here are a few updates for the upcoming week:
Practice
We will need to cancel practice Tuesday and push back our first morning practice until Wednesday, June 2. Three of our coaches are either in school and/or graduating on Tuesday (congratulations!) so we won't have enough manpower for all the kids :). Thank you for your understanding!
Volunteering
The volunteer positions are open for signups. We ask that each family sign up for at least two volunteer slots for the season (not per meet). This can be found on the app by clicking on the individual meet and then selecting "job signup" or through the website under "Meets & Events" dropdown and then "Signup Calendar." You can also declare your swimmers as attending or not from this area, though no action will automatically assume they ARE swimming.
Time Trials
Our first meet of the season is this Thursday, June 3rd! Shrimps (6 and under) will swim freestyle. All swimmers age 7 & up will have the opportunity to swim all four strokes so that our coaches can get an accurate time for each child. It is also a fun practice meet for any new families too! Please plan to arrive at the pool by 5:15pm for warmups. The meet will begin promptly at 6:00pm.
"Marking your Swimmer" (also attached as a document)
To help our swimmers recall their event number, heat and lane assignments, we kindly
ask parents to follow the instructions below. These markings also help
our officials, coaches and parents assist the kids when needed.
Here is an example of a swimmer’s entries in the heat sheets (5 events, cut and pasted together):
1. Print out a copy of all pages of the heat sheets, which will be emailed out the day of the meet. WE DON'T HAND THEM OUT AT THE MEETS, YOU MUST BRING YOUR OWN COPY! You can also find which events your swimmer will be swimming on the Swimtopia app. Though heat & lane assignments will not be shown.
2. Find your swimmer by name on all pages of the heat sheets and highlight his/her name (I used Luke Reynard in the examples above).
3. AT HOME BEFORE YOU COME TO THE MEET, on your swimmer’s hand, arm or leg, write down what they’re swimming.
E = Event, H = Heat, L = Lane.
Strokes are FR = free, BK = back, BR = breast and FL = fly.
4. This is an example of what you would write on your swimmer’s hand/arm/leg using a waterproof pen (Sharpie) with Luke’s example above:
Looking forward to seeing you all in the water on Wednesday and to watch everyone swim on Thursday!! If you have any questions, please let us know.
Go Hurricanes!
